LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network. A strong profile makes you visible to recruiters and helps you build the connections that lead to civilian opportunities.
Your Online Presence
Over 90% of recruiters use LinkedIn to find and vet candidates. If you do not have a profile — or your profile is incomplete — you are invisible to a huge portion of the job market.
For veterans, LinkedIn is also a powerful way to connect with other former service personnel who have successfully transitioned, giving you access to advice, referrals and opportunities that never appear on public job boards.
Use a professional headshot — smart civilian attire, neutral background, friendly expression. Profiles with photos receive significantly more views than those without.
Your headline is prime real estate. Do not just write "Looking for opportunities" — instead, describe what you do: "Supply Chain Professional | Military Veteran | IoSCM Level 5".
Write in first person, summarise your background in civilian language and state clearly what type of role you are looking for. Include keywords recruiters search for.
Enable the "Open to Work" feature and specify which roles and locations you are interested in. This signals to recruiters that you are available.
Profile Checklist
Complete all sections — photo, headline, about, experience, education, skills and recommendations. LinkedIn's algorithm prioritises complete profiles in search results.
Include the job titles, skills and sector keywords that match the roles you are seeking. Recruiters use keyword searches — if the words are not in your profile, you will not appear.
Ask former colleagues, commanding officers or managers to write a LinkedIn recommendation for you. Even one or two testimonials significantly strengthen your profile.
Once you complete your IoSCM qualification, add it to your LinkedIn profile's Education and Licences & Certifications sections to increase your visibility to recruiters.
