Your Future Career

Quite often underestimated in the commercial sector is the impact that an Armed Forces Service Leaver can have on an organisation or team. They come with a moral compass that points north, have an unrivalled work ethic and an unparalleled approach to leadership and team work. Blessed with a varied skill set, a wealth of knowledge and experience, service leavers can be an asset to any organisation.

As service people, you all have one thing in common, you will all return to civilian life, and you will leave for a myriad of reasons (end of career, family obligations, poor health or other circumstance), which will also define the period of time, in which you have to prepare yourself for the commercial world.

That is why, the services are heavily invested in making sure service people are invested in their own individual personal and professional development (IPPD) as early on in a career as possible and hopefully making sure that the worry is taken out of finding the right career move.

As you leave the services, a fact that you do need to understand is, for the majority of service leavers you will be in the commercial sector longer than you are in MoD sector, so it does therefore make sense, to engage with developing yourself throughout your career, paving the way to a smoother transition period and ultimately, you finding the right position industry that compliments your skillset, which you have developed over a greater period of time.
